New Signature Rooms unveiled at CODE The Court

Edinburgh hotel room with a view

After years of planning and a multi-million-pound investment, we’re proud to finally share a major new chapter in the story of CODE The Court – the unveiling of our new attic floor of signature boutique hotel rooms and our full rebrand.

This marks an exciting evolution for our landmark venue overlooking Edinburgh’s historic Parliament Square. What began as a blend of modern pods and repurposed police cells has now grown into a boutique hotel & urban hostel experience, designed for travellers who value both style and substance.

The Enlightened Rooms: A Stay Inspired by Edinburgh’s Great Minds

Our newly launched Enlightened Rooms, designed by the talented team at Morgan Architects, combine bespoke interiors with Edinburgh’s rich intellectual heritage. Each room pays tribute to a figure who helped shape the city’s history – from Adam Smith and Sophia Jex-Blake to David Hume and Robert Louis Stevenson.

Every space is thoughtfully curated, featuring design details, artwork, and subtle references that connect guests directly to the stories of the city. The collection also includes the Crossley Engine Room, named after the rare 19th-century engine uncovered during our original restoration – now proudly on display at The Lost Close beneath The Court.

John’s Coffee House & Tavern: The Heart of The Court

Earlier this year, we also opened John’s Coffee House & Tavern following a £500k renovation. Inspired by the original 18th-century coffee house where lawyers, philosophers, and writers once gathered, it’s now the social heart of The Court – a space that’s equal parts local hangout and travellers’ hub.

Since opening, we’ve seen guests connecting over craft drinks, live music, and shared stories, turning a stay into something more – a memory.

Sustainable by Design

Every element of this transformation has been shaped by a commitment to sustainability and operational efficiency. The building now runs on a fully electric heating and cooling system that redistributes heat to reduce energy waste. We’ve also integrated smart sensors and real-time energy monitoring to ensure our operations are as responsible as they are efficient – future-focused and built to last.

“More Than a Stay”

As our CEO Andrew Landsburgh put it:

“This investment marks an important step in the evolution of The Court. We set out to move beyond our original pod model and by extending into the roof space we could create a boutique hotel floor that can compete at a higher level. The refurbishment in the attic also allowed us to repair and treat areas that had been inaccessible while also giving the building a thermal upgrade. Each new room is designed to do more than accommodate – it encourages guests to stay longer, explore the city’s incredible history, and connect with the stories that make Edinburgh unique. With the new rooms, it was important that our website and visual identity reflect the same quality, and our updated branding and site absolutely showcase how we deliver the best customer experience.”
