February is a great time to visit Edinburgh. The city is a bit quieter, the days are starting to get longer, and there is plenty to see and do, from our ‘Pal’entines Day social dinner to immersing yourself in Six Nations energy and exploring the new Giants exhibit at the National Museum of Scotland.
Whether you’re a raving rugby fan, an amateur art historian, or just someone keen to explore the centuries-old streets and monuments that make Edinburgh unique, there is plenty to see and do this month.
Haunted Drams – Ghost and Whisky Experience at The Lost Close
Step into the shadows of Edinburgh’s dark past on this spine-tingling walking tour through the Old Town’s most haunted parts. Begin your guided ghost walk above ground as you hear chilling tales of witches and the condemned. Then, follow your guide underground to The Lost Close, a hidden underground space where you’ll savour two drams of premium Scotch whisky.
Six Nations Rugby
The city comes to life with rugby spirit as the Six Nations games take place over February. Don’t miss the match happening in Edinburgh’s Murrayfield Stadium on Saturday, 14th February (Scotland vs England).
Don’t fancy the journey to Murrayfield? We’ll be showing all the games live at John’s Coffee House and Tavern, with special face painting happening during the Scotland vs France match.
Edinburgh Zoo’s Giant Lanterns
This spectacular light trail is a much-loved experience among locals. See your favourite animals like never before as you wander among giant illuminated lanterns.
A night out at the Ballet or Theatre
Edinburgh is home to the world-famous Edinburgh Fringe in August, but the performances continue throughout the year. There are several ballet performances happening in February:
- Varna International Ballet at Edinburgh Playhouse (19th February to 21st February)
- Nutcracker in Havana at Festival Theatre (3rd and 4th February).

Giants exhibition at National Museum of Scotland
Meet colossal prehistoric creatures at this new exhibit at the National Museum of Scotland. This immersive exhibit will help you learn how fossils have been discovered and how prehistoric giants have been reconstructed.

As a CODE guest, you can join our exclusive events happening daily. In February, we are proud to be hosting a special ‘PAL’entines social dinner on 12th February at 7PM. Meet fellow travellers while playing a fun game of ‘PAL’entines bingo. Enjoy a glass of fizz, a Scottish pie, and strawberries and Nutella. Delicious!
