Our spaces
At The Court, our spaces are designed to bring people together, blending history with comfort in the heart of Edinburgh’s Old Town.
Step into history
Whether you’re here to relax, connect with fellow travellers, or experience something new, The Court offers unique settings that reflect the rich character of our historic building.
John’s Coffee House & Tavern
Located on the ground floor of The Court, John’s Coffee House & Tavern is a welcoming space for both guests and locals. With its cosy atmosphere and a menu full of locally sourced drinks and snacks, it’s the perfect place to start your day with a coffee, enjoy a casual bite, or wind down with a drink in the evening.
The Lost Close
Hidden beneath The Court lies The Lost Close, a historic underground space where stories of Edinburgh come alive. This unique venue hosts whisky and gin tastings, historic walking tours, private events, and immersive experiences that connect you to Scotland’s past while celebrating the best of its present-day flavours.
New Spaces Coming Soon in 2026
We’re excited to share that The Court is evolving. In early 2026, we’ll be unveiling brand-new spaces, including a communal kitchen. These additions will create even more opportunities for guests to cook, work, and connect in our historic building. Stay tuned – something special is on the way.

“The facilities were very clean and the other guests were very respectful. The staff were very nice and answered all of my questions as a newby to Hostel life. I felt very safe as a female traveling solo. Thank you for a wondeful stay! Also – the Haggis Breakfast Sandwich – yum…”

“I chose to stay at the Court for its location and the ability to stay in a private room, and just want to give the whole team there a big shout out. Everyone was welcoming from check in to the restaurant downstairs to checking out, they’re all such lovely people. Also there are little events every night to get in touch with other travellers so lots of opportunities to meet people!”
Rebecca H, October 2025
“Feel extremely safe even tough i was staying in a mixed dormitory. The events organized every day are superb and a fantastic way to meet new people and experience authentic scotland.”
Carmen B, July 2025
“I was a bit worried to stay in a hostel by myself but Code Pod turned out to be very safe and nice! The sleeping pod was cosy, everything was clean, and there were plenty of oganised activities, including a great free walking tour. A good selection of gluten free beer as well!”
noorahirvonen, June 2025
“As a solo female traveler, I loved staying here! I chose a female only dorm and felt so safe the whole time. The pod rooms were very quiet, the pod was cozier than I expected and had a secure locker for you and a charger inside the pod. They also have lots of opportunities to meet other solo travelers – just check the daily events they have. Everyone was so friendly and we ended up pub hopping together a few nights!”
